Coronation Street's Roy and Hayley Cropper are left in a ''desperate'' situation when troubled Becky McDonald flees with baby Hope
Coronation Street's Roy and Hayley Cropper are left in a "desperate" situation when Becky McDonald flees with baby Hope.
The couple have been caring for the baby while her mother Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) is in prison accused of being an accomplice in murderous husband John Stape's crimes, but their friend has a change of heart and agrees to move to a mother and baby unit so she can keep the tot with her.
However, Becky - who has been living with Roy and Hayley following the collapse of her marriage to Steve McDonald and having to give up the care of her nephew Max - takes desperate measures in a bid to give the child a better life.
A source said: "It's a desperate situation for the Croppers. Becky adores Hope - and as Roy and Hayley are packing up her stuff, it gets too much to bear.
"She takes the baby and flees the flat."
Roy and Hayley - played by David Neilson and Julie Hesmondhalgh - search desperately for the pair, but with the seamstress reluctant to involve the police, it looks like Becky (Katherine Kelly) and the baby could be gone for good.
The source added to Inside Soap magazine: "It really will be touch-and-go. Becky has Hope, and a new life together is just a bus ride away for them.
"But can she heap more misery on Fiz as she languishes in prison, or will Becky do the right thing and return Hope?"
