This Morning boss to join Daybreak
'This Morning' boss Karl Newton is being drafted in to 'Daybreak' to boost dwindling viewing figures and give the show a much-needed revamp
'This Morning' boss Karl Newton is being drafted in to 'Daybreak' to boost dwindling viewing figures.
The ITV1 morning show - which is hosted by Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley - has failed to win over viewers after it was launched last September as a replacement for 'GMTV', and is still constantly being beaten by rival 'BBC Breakfast'.
So bosses are keen for a revamp and think Karl will help soften the format and "inject more fun" as programme chiefs plan "a last throw of the dice".
A source explained: "He is looking at how it runs, how it can improve and why it is being beaten by the BBC."
According to industry magazine Broadcast, Karl - who has had success with shows including 'Loose Women' - will be made executive producer but staff are worried they may lose their jobs in a shake-up.
One worker said: "We don't know what he wants, so we all are worried."
An ITV spokesperson said: "Karl is assisting with the 'Daybreak' transition to ITV Studios."
