Robert Lindsay and Richard Griffiths will star in a new gay sitcom for BBC One.
The 'My Family' actor will appear as the lead in 'George and Bernard Shaw' opposite 'Harry Potter' actor Richard Griffiths in the "quirky and warm" show revolving around the life of a middle-aged couple.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Yes, it's slightly less than conventional in terms of the family set-up but it's the 21st century and things move on.
"The BBC have commissioned a pilot and will make the call once it's all wrapped up. But all signs point towards this being a perfect prime-time vehicle. The two big names involved mean this could be very special."
The new sitcom will take over the time-slot previously held by 'My Family' for 11 years before it was axed earlier this year.
Although the programme has enjoyed popularity since it launched in 2000, TV bosses decided to give it the chop to make room for fresh new comedies.
BBC One boss Danny Cohen confirmed the 11th series would be the last, saying: "Now that all of the kids have fled the nest we feel it's time to make room for new comedies."
However, comedy chief Cheryl Taylor had previously explained the channel was looking forward to producing more shows, and would welcome Robert and co-star Zoe Wannamaker back in new roles.
She said: "Now almost a generation of British children have grown up with the Harper brood, we're looking to the future with new families and new comedies that we hope will prove equally popular."
"We look forward to Zoe and Robert continuing to being part of our comedy family in the years to come."
