Lesbians move into Emmerdale
'Emmerdale' is set to add a lesbian couple to its cast in October, played by former 'Bad Girls' star Alicya Eyo and ex-'Shameless' actress Kelli Hollis
'Emmerdale' is bringing in a lesbian couple.
The ITV1 soap - whose only current homosexual character is Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller) - will welcome former 'Bad Girls' actress Alicya Eyo, who played gay woman Denny Blood in the prison drama, and ex-'Shameless' star Kelli Hollis to portray lesbian lovers Ruby Haswell and Ali Spencer in October.
Ali (Kelli) - who is the sister of troublesome Rachel Breckle (Gemma Oaten) - has left her family to start a new life in the Dales with her two children Sean (Luke Roskell, 14) and Amelia (Daisy Campbell, seven) - and the actress explained it is a "dream come true" to be joining the cast of the Yorkshire-based soap.
She said: "As a Leeds girl myself, getting a role as a new regular character for 'Emmerdale' in my home town is a dream come true. I'm really excited to be playing Ali."
Alicya - who most recently played mother-of-two Sandi Mansfield in BBC One school drama 'Waterloo Road' - revealed she is "over the moon" to be joining 'Emmerdale'.
She added: "I'm over the moon and can't wait to get started. Being part of a show that I've grown up watching is amazing and Ruby is going to be a lot of fun to play."
'Emmerdale' series producer Stuart Blackburn explained: "Ali and Ruby are down to earth, gritty, funny and likeable and after leaving her husband of 15 years, Ali has a lot riding on making her new life in Emmerdale work."
