We have some fantastic ideas in mind for the next stage of the journey and relish the chance to take the programme to the next level!"
David Ellender, Global CEO of FME - who have invested in the fifth series - commented, "With 'Merlin' now in 183 countries and both a fourth and fifth series underway it is a truly global brand.
"Consistent audience figures in each territory, a strong international fan base and a fantastic cast further cement its cross generational appeal. We are continuing to work with the best broadcasters, producers and licensing partners on this brand and look forward to its on-going success."
The announcement was made as the cast and executive producers and co-creators Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy attended a special hour-long panel and signing yesterday (24.07.11) afternoon at Comic-Con in San Diego; the largest comic book and popular arts convention in the world.
Filming for the 13 episodes for series five will begin in Wales and Pierrefonds, France, in March 2012.
