Cheryl Cole is a big fan of the 'Coronation Street' teen lesbian storyline.

Sacha Parkinson - who plays Sian Powers in the ITV1 soap - explained the 'Promise This' hitmaker had praised her and co-star Brooke Vincent (Sophie Webster) for the way they have handled the plot.

She said: "Cheryl Cole came up to me and Brooke and said she really liked us. That was amazing.

"When people stop me in the street and thank me, it's really lovely. We've had a lot of fan mail from people saying it's nice to have something on telly they can finally relate to."

However, Sacha puts the success of the controversial storyline down to the fact that she and Brooke have been friends since attending a drama school together at the age of six.

She added to the Daily Star newspaper: "Our biggest worry with this storyline is that we might laugh or get embarrassed and spoil our friendship by not being mature about the situation.

"People thought if you weren't friends, if you didn't know each other, it would be a lot to just go in, do it and come back out.

"But I think it's worked better with us being friends because we're a lot more comfortable about trying new things and just going for it, rather than being a bit wary of each other."
