Simon Cowell admits he grew ''bored'' of 'The X Factor' before deciding to take the show's format to the US
Simon Cowell grew "bored" of 'The X Factor' before taking the show's format to the US.
The music mogul - who will launch the TV talent show Stateside later this year at a cost of £2.1 million per episode - admitted he was growing tired of the UK version of the series until he decided to revamp the programme.
Speaking about a particular low point at a Glasgow audition in 2009, he said: "I literally stood up and said, 'I can't do this any more'.
"So we got back on a plane. I was in a filthy mood. I thought, 'This show is boring. I don't want to do it any more'. Then I got an idea. I wanted to shoot the auditions in an arena, like concerts. That's when it crossed my mind this show is absolutely coming to America."
However, the 51-year-old star - who is joined on the panel of the US 'X Factor' by L.A. Reid, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger after sensationally axing Cheryl Cole from the show - confessed he is concerned that the series may not be a storming success Stateside.
Discussing the New Jersey auditions, Simon added to the Wall Street Journal: "It felt like there were 250 people in that room and every one was ¬petrified.
"I thought, 'This is either going to work or it's not and there's nothing I can do about it'."
