Moby is obsessed with antique drum machines and used many of them on his new album 'Destroyed'
Moby used old drum machines throughout his new album because of his "weird" love of old technology.
The 'Play' hitmaker doesn't think many people are as obsessed with the electronic instrument as he is, but he is fascinated by old models and loves to feature them in his music whenever he can.
He said: "I presumptuously maintain that I have the world's largest collection of antique drum machines. On the new album, 'Destroyed', almost every song involves some old drum machine just because I have a weird irrational love for old technology.
"And there are a lot of people who collect old synths, but there are very few people who collect old drum machines. I basically think it's me, Martin Gore from Depeche Mode and some guy in Japan."
Moby believes it is important for new artists to have as many different talents as possible if they want to sustain a lasting career.
Asked for advice for new performers, he told music website Spinner: "Learn how to do as many things as possible. The way the music business has changed and continues to change, you can't just do one thing any more.
"In the 50s, 60s, 70s you could get by just being a bass player or a singer, and now the only way for a musician to have a viable career is to know how to do anything. You should know how to write songs, play instruments, perform live, DJ, remix, do production and write classical music for films... and then there's a good chance that for the next 40 or 50 years you'll be able to have a good living from being a musician."
