Sir Elton John performed a selection of his classics and recent hits at Magic Summer Live in Hertfordshire yesterday (17.07.11).

Sir Elton John praised his fans for braving the rain at Magic Summer Live in Hertfordshire yesterday (17.07.11), rewarding them with a hit-laden set.

Although he arrived on stage half an hour later than advertised, the music legend made up for it by immediately launching into 'Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)' and vowing to take the concertgoers' minds off the "miserable weather".

He said: "Thank you for coming out in this miserable weather and supporting this event. We're going to try to cheer you up."

Accompanied by his five-piece band, four backing vocalists and 2Cellos duo Luka Sulic and Stjepan Haand, the singer performed a string of his best known hits including 'Madman Across The Water', 'Tiny Dancer', 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road', 'Sacrifice', 'Rocket Man' and 'I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues'.

After a brief interlude of songs from his most recent record, the Leon Russell collaboration 'The Union', which peaked at number three on the US Billboard chart, Elton returned to the classics including ' Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word', Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me', 'Are You Ready For Love?' and 'Benny And The Jets'.

Other acts to perform during the day long event at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, East England, included Lighthouse Family, Rumer, The Overtones, The Pierces and Wonderland.

Went to Magic Concert yesterday with Elton John as headline act.
All the singers were great especially Elton but the sound system was a joke, very irregular.......shame!
The whole organisation of the event for the paying publis was a mess, it took two hours to get parked in the grounds so we missed a fair bit of the concert! Crazy!

Magic summer live yesterday was a total fiasco.
One & a half hours queueing to park........
so missed the start of the afternoon.
Over 2 hours waiting at food outlets.
Food/drink banned from being taken in, but many people HAD managed to get picnic baskets past the check-points.
Extremely poor marshalling, with the staff totally overwhelmed with what was expected of them.
Very poor show Magic.
Won't be attending any events of yours in the future.
