Joey Essex banned from releasing single
Joey Essex has been banned from launching a pop career after 'The Only Way Is Essex' bosses fear it could overshadow the launch of the upcoming third series of the ITV2 reality show.
Joey Essex has been banned from launching a pop career.
The 'Only Way Is Essex' star - who had planned to release his debut single, 'Reem', later this year - has been told by show bosses he won't be able to take his musical aspirations any further if he still wants to have a place on the ITV2 reality series.
It is thought 'TOWIE' chiefs are concerned a bid for pop success could cause the 20-year-old star to get "too big for his boots" and overshadow the launch of the third series of the show this autumn.
However, record company bosses are determined to release the single - which has already been leaked online - in spite of the demands of TV executives.
A source close to 360 Records told The Sun newspaper: "We are well within our rights to release this record and will do if the demand continues. I think it's a shame when a star is held back from fulfilling his full potential."
In another blow to Joey, it has not yet been confirmed whether he - as well as fellow series two newcomers Maria Fowler, Lauren Pope, Chloe Sims, Gemma Collins and Mick Norcross - will even be appearing in the third season of 'The Only Way Is Essex', as show bosses are only guaranteeing places for original stars.
Joey's girlfriend Sam Faiers - who has appeared in 'TOWIE' since it launched late last year - said: "It's really sad but they have said they won't be signing up all the people who were in the second series again.
"I hope Joey stays. But he would be OK off the series anyway."
