'Torchwood' star John Barrowman says his character Captain Jack Harkness is liked by audience members because the pair have the same personalities
John Barrowman is like his 'Torchwood' character.
The 44-year-old actor - who is set to reprise his role as Captain Jack Harkness in 'Torchwood: Miracle Day', a new 10-part series of the 'Doctor Who' spin-off - believes fans of the show enjoy his alter ego's traits because they see similarities with his real life persona.
He said: "Captain Jack is a lot like John Barrowman and John Barrowman is a lot like Captain Jack, but I'm not immortal. There's a lot of my personality in there and I think that's why audiences have taken to him and I'm truly, truly grateful and truly chuffed."
John loves appearing in 'Torchwood' and would be happy if the series continued until he died.
He added: "Captain Jack is one of the best characters to play. I would happily play Captain Jack for the rest of my life. When I see a script I know exactly what to do.
"We are allowed to play the characters the way we know we do."
The actor believes new viewers of the forthcoming series - which was filmed mainly in America, away from its primary location of Wales - will feel like they are watching a brand new show, while loyal audience members will be able to "jump in right where they left off".
He added: "Viewers who have been our loyal fans from series one, starting from BBC Three, will be able to jump in right where they left off and understand what is going on. They will be able to pick up from right where we left off.
"For new viewers it'll be like watching a brand new show.
"'Torchwood' this year is not so much based on the alien spaceship. 'Doctor Who' is the show where Jack was born. This is more psychological sci-fi. We talk about the aliens, but the whole thing about the miracle day."
