Olly Murs insists he didn't steal Matt Edmondson's 'Xtra Factor' job.
The 'Please Don't Let Me Go' hitmaker - who hosts 'The X Factor' spin-off show alongside Caroline Flack - explained he didn't even apply for the role and found it hard to say no to Simon Cowell when he offered him the job, despite the Radio 1 DJ being hotly-tipped to take over from former host Konnie Huq.
Olly exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I didn't even apply for the job! I literally got a phone call two days before the show started saying, 'Would you like to do 'The Xtra Factor'? I'd never done any presenting before but when you get a phone call like that from Simon Cowell it's pretty hard to say no.
"It wasn't until afterwards I found out about Matt - I haven't seen him yet but I don't want him to think I ran in there like, 'I want this job!' I'd love to talk to him about it so he doesn't think I nicked his job. It was all in Simon's hands."
Olly - who was mentored by Simon Cowell when he finished second in the competition in 2009 - also thinks despite the music mogul having quit 'The X Factor' to launch the ITV1 show Stateside, it will allow the series to undergo a much-needed "re-vamp".
He added: "Every TV show needs a re-vamp and sometimes Simon will be missed but it's all for the good. It's nice to change it around a bit and make it a bit more fresh.
"I'm sure he'll be back at some point anyway, maybe in a cameo role. Knowing Simon, he'll want to be involved somehow. It's his show.
Olly and Alexandra Burke are the headline acts at this year's The Great British Weekend at Warwick Castle on Friday July 15. For more info visit www.warwick-castle.com
