EastEnders' Tanya Jessop is to be diagnosed with cervical cancer.
The mother-of-three - who recently married second husband Greg Jessop ( - will face "one of the toughest challenges of her life" when she is given the devastating news and cancer charities have welcomed the storyline as it helps raise awareness.
Robert Music, director of Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust, said: "We think it is fantastic that 'EastEnders' has decided to highlight the issue. We hope it will raise awareness."
The BBC One soap's executive producer Bryan Kirkwood added: "We have worked closely with experts to ensure we accurately portray this sensitive issues."
Tanya - played by Jo Joyner - is currently having an affair with her first husband Max Branning (Jake Wood) and she will make the discovery as the love triangle comes to an end.
It has not been revealed how the affair will pan out and which of her husbands will be there to support her as she bravely battles the potentially-fatal disease.
