Pat Evans will find romance with a former flame in 'EastEnders'.
The soap legend - played by Pam St. Clement - will be pursued by Norman Simmonds (George Layton) when he arrives in Albert Square for his mother's funeral and decides to stay after realising there is still a spark between the two pensioners.
A source said: "Norman hasn't had much luck in life. He's hapless, but has a really good heart. He could be just what Pat's looking for."
While Norman will end up battling his niece Janine Malloy (Charlie Brooks) over his mother's will, the Walford schemer is set to be "absolutely furious" over the budding relationship.
The source added to Inside Soap magazine: "Norman turns up at Lydia's funeral and Janine will be wondering what he wants and why he's there.
"It'll add insult to injury that he has a history with Pat. Janine's likely to do everything she can to destroy their happiness."
Speaking of joining the soap, Layton commented: "I am thrilled to be joining such a wonderful cast and crew - Norman is a great part and I'm excited to play him.
"I can't wait to get stuck into life in Albert Square - and hopefully the odd tipple or three in the Queen Vic!"
