John Stape will return to 'Coronation Street' to confess his triple murders and clear the name of his wife, Fiz

John Stape will return to 'Coronation Street' to confess his murders and save his wife, Fiz.

The soap's dramatic storyline last saw the multiple murderer jump 30ft from a hospital roof after being cornered by police, before disappearing.

However, his dramatic re-appearance will come while Fiz is on trial for the murders of Colin and Joy Fishwick and Charlotte Hoyle, which he committed.

John will dramatically burst into the courtroom, confess to his crimes and insist he acted alone in the killings and that Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) is not to blame.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "It will be a real shock for fans when John arrives in the nick of time.

"Bosses are hoping it will be one of those classic moments in television when he returns to clear his wife's name."

John - played by Graeme Hawley - will explain he fled to Ireland after escaping the police and has been sleeping rough, but keeping track of the case through newspapers.

Graeme said he left the ITV1 soap after four years of playing John as he was worried the show's writers could take his storyline "too far".

He said: "I had an affair with a schoolgirl, kidnapped her, buried a colleague, killed an old lady and murdered an old friend.

"I loved the part, but you would worry it was going to far. I think if I had stayed too much longer it could have ruined my career. I feared the backlash of playing a murderer. Once the viewers start to hate a character then that's it, you don't get another job."
