Joe McElderry 'stupid' to do Popstar to Operastar
Joe McElderry thinks he must have been ''stupid'' to have wanted to appear on 'Popstar to Operastar'
Joe McElderry thinks he is "stupid" to appear in 'Popstar to Operastar'.
The 19-year-old star - who won 'The X Factor' in 2009, only to be dropped by Simon Cowell's record label 18 months later - explained he is hoping to master the art of opera singing on the ITV1 show, to the extent that he sounds like Pavorotti.
He said: "I'm a bit stupid, aren't I? I'm putting myself through the whole process again. Crazy or what? But it's going to be fun, and I do like a challenge.
"I've never really been into opera, so I've never listened to it. In terms of the kind of person I might sound like, I haven't got a clue. I'll try to go for Pavorotti."
Joe admitted while his voice is "getting there", he thinks his voice is too "musical theatre" to adopt to the opera style.
He added to heat magazine: "My operatic voice is alright. It's getting there. People always tend to say I have a loud, belty, musical-theatre kind of voice anyway, so hopefully that will help."
