Michelle Collins wants to create memorable character
Michelle Collins is keen to create another soap alter-ego as memorable as feisty Cindy Beale when she makes her 'Coronation Street' debut later this week.
Michelle Collins wants to create another soap alter-ego as memorable as Cindy Beale.
The 49-year-old actress - who played the blonde temptress in 'EastEnders' until 1998 - makes her 'Coronation Street' debut as new Rovers Return landlady Stella Price this week, and explained she is determined to create a "really great character".
She said: "I'd love to create another character who could be as memorable as Cindy. Stella is much more likeable and I think that's the key to longevity in a show - people have to like you! I'm a lot older now, I've changed and I'm much more mature, so I hope a better actor.
"I haven't come to 'Corrie' to make loads of friends and have fun - I've come to work hard and create a really great character."
However, Michelle admitted she is struggling to come to terms with the fact that she's in scenes with soap veterans Bill Roache and Anne Kirkbride - who play Ken and Deirdre Barlow - as she keeps wanting to say "silly" things to them.
She added to Inside Soap magazine: "It's a bit surreal sometimes. The funniest thing was the first time I served Ken and Deirdre in the pub. I had to stop myself from saying something silly to Bill and Anne."
