Michelle Collins' 'strange' Corrie experience

Michelle Collins admits her new co-stars initially found working with her "strange".
The 49-year-old actress - who is best known for playing Cindy Beale in 'EastEnders' - recently joined 'Coronation Street' as new Rovers Return landlady Stella Price, and though she left the rival soap 14 years ago, some of her new castmates struggled to disassociate her from her previous role.
She said: "I think it was a bit strange for the actors. I served my first drinks to Roy and Hayley, and Julie Hesmondhalgh who plays Hayley kept looking at me and saying, 'I just can¹t get my head around you being here.' "
The actress admits she had to audition several times before producers finally cast her in the role.
She added to new! magazine: "I didn't get it easily! It was a big role and they wanted to be sure, so I was asked to audition a couple of times over a period of a few months."
Michelle insists her new alter ego is nothing like Cindy, but hopes she has changed a lot since she left 'EastEnders' so it won't be too difficult for her to be believable in the role.
She said: "She's very different, but I'm different now, too. I was 34 when I left 'EastEnders' and I'm 49 now. I've matured as a person and hopefully as an actress."
