Becky McDonald is to flee 'Coronation Street' "heartbroken" when husband Steve McDonald gets Tracy Barlow pregnant.

The bolshie barmaid - played by actress Katherine Kelly - will be devastated when her hapless hubby reveals he's expecting a child with his feisty former flame.

However, Becky will be blamed for making her love rival lose her unborn child when trickster Tracy (Kate Ford) secretly miscarries the baby before goading Becky so much that she attacks her.

After Steve (Simon Gregson) - who also has daughter Amy (Elle Mulvaney) with Tracy - tells Becky he will never forgive her for her supposed actions, she flees the Street marking the end of Katherine Kelly's five-year stint on the show later this year.

With 'Corrie' boss Phil Collinson said to be "delighted" at the ending he has devised, it will leave the door open should Katherine decide to return to the ITV1 soap at a later date.

An insider told the News of the World newspaper: "We are all sad to see Kate leave as she has been one of the biggest and most talented stars.

"But we understand her decision - and Phil feels delighted to give her a typically feisty exit storyline."

The explosive storyline will begin when Steve splits with Becky to get back together with Tracy.

However, the scheming murderess hatches an evil plot to see the disturbed blonde banished from the Street for good when she finds out the former lovers have had a drunken one-night stand.
