A fine August ending to Edinburgh’s annual festival hoopla

Retreat 2011

It’ll be the fourth year running for the pocket-sized festival, which the organisers describe as ‘an independent micro music festival celebrating Edinburgh’s contribution to the international pop underground.’ And by ‘pop underground’, last year that meant appearances from Conquering Animal Sound, Withered Hand, 7VWWVW, Benni Hemm Hemm and the Douglas Firs. This year’s line-up is still top-secret, but we’ve been told to expect ‘film screenings at dinnertime, delicious foodstuffs from local caterers, a deranged gala-day environment, and the most extravagant staging and costumery no money can buy’.

Line-up:

Broken Records
Jesus H. Foxx
Meursault
Gummy Stumps
Lady North
The Leg
The Scottish Enlightenment
Skeleton Bob
Rob St John
The Pineapple Chunks
Two Wings
eagleowl
ballboy
Found
We Are Lady North

Plus: A fine ending to Edinburgh’s annual festival hoopla
Minus: Fans of lad rock anthems will be sorely disappointed

Pilrig St Paul’s Church (Leith Walk / Pilrig Street), Edinburgh, Sat 27–Sun 28 Aug. Price: £7 (day) / £12 (weekend) – from wegottickets.com and various outlets, released in July.
