EastEnders' Mercy to get cold feet at wedding
Mercy Olubunmi will marry Arthur 'Fatboy' Chubb in 'EastEnders' this week - although she gets cold feet because she knows she is only doing it to get a visa to stay in the country.
EastEnders' Mercy Olubunmi will get cold feet as she prepares to marry Fatboy.
While Fatboy - real name Arthur Chubb - will be ecstatic to have finally landed the girl of his dreams, Mercy (Bunmi Mojekwu) has doubts before they tie the knot and ends up forcing her vows out because she knows she is only doing it get a visa to stay in the country.
And although Fatboy knows deep down that Mercy isn't really in love with him, he hopes this will be his chance to make her fall for him once and for all.
Ricky Norwood - who plays the lovelorn groom in the BBC One soap - said: "Fatboy thinks the wedding will solve everything but it just creates even more problems. They've got to keep up the façade that it's genuine, and it becomes very hard for them to even be friends.
"Fatboy's hoping that he and Mercy will end up skipping though a field of daisies, but that's not what he gets. He manages to talk her round and says, 'You'll fall for me, trust me!' But of course Fatboy knows she's not attracted to him."
However, the situation goes from bad to worse after the ceremony, when Mercy finds out it was Fatboy's dad Ashley (Colin Mace) who reported her to the immigration authorities, who are threatening to send her back to her native Nigeria.
Ricky added to Inside Soap magazine: "Mercy's not too upset about what Ashley did, but she can't believe Fatboy knew about it. He will go to the ends of the earth to make this marriage work, though."
