EastEnders boss 'proud' of baby swap
'EastEnders' boss Bryan Kirkwood is ''really proud'' of the BBC One soap's controversial baby swap storyline
'EastEnders' boss Bryan Kirkwood is "really proud" of the baby swap storyline.
The executive producer explained while the controversial plot - which involved distressed Ronnie Branning (Samantha Womack) swapping her dead baby with Kat Moon's (Jessie Wallace) tot - attracted "a great deal of scrutiny", it was "captivating".
He said: "We're really proud of that story, actually. It attracted a great deal of scrutiny but I think the resolution that happened in April was 'EastEnders' at its best. That was representative of why we told the story in the first place.
"It was captivating, it was beautifully performed. Now we're just going to keep on doing what we do and trying to keep on telling good storylines."
Meanwhile, 'EastEnders' star John Partridge - who plays Christian Clarke in the BBC One soap - puts the success of the disturbing plot down to the fact that audiences were in on a secret none of the characters knew about.
He added to Digital Spy: "The audience love it when they know something that you don't. Whether you liked the baby swap storyline or you didn't, whether it was controversial or it wasn't, the audience was looking in on that and they knew something we didn't.
"And 12 million people were looking in on that story, and it was captivating."
