Ace Bhatti's street torment
Ace Bhatti, who plays deceptive doctor Yusef Khan in 'EastEnders', has been told off in the street for his character's behaviour
Ace Bhatti has been reprimanded in the street for the actions of his 'EastEnders' alter-ego Yusef Khan.
The 41-year-old actor revealed although he has only been in the BBC One soap for six months playing the deceptive doctor - nicknamed 'Dr. Evil' by viewers for trying to steal his ex-girlfriend Zainab Masood (Nina Wadia) form her husband Masood Ahmed (Nitrin Ganatra) - he is already suffering the repercussions of portraying an unpopular character.
He said: "A couple of women have come up and told me that I'm a bad man. Well, Yusef does have more bad qualities than good. Fans call me Dr. Evil."
However, Ace is more understanding of Yusef, remembering that his heart was broken by Zainab as a teenager.
He added to Inside Soap magazine: "He's very insecure. Zainab left him when he was 17 and it brought shame on him and his family. I can understand his behaviour in some ways."
Viewers have been left in the dark as to whether mouthy mother Zainab will leave Masood for Yusef after she learned that he saved her life in a fire in Pakistan years ago.
Nitrin recently said: "Masood asks Zainab if she chose the right man and she can't answer, which adds to his insecurities. It sows seeds of doubt. He can't help but feel as though he is losing his wife, and that she's falling back in love with Yusef.
"Masood is very worried that Zainab is going to leave him."
