Graeme Hawley thinks his 'Coronation Street' alter-ego John Stape deserves to have his own ITV spin-off show.

Coronation Street's Graeme Hawley wants his own spin-off show.

The 37-year-old actor - who plays killer John Stape in the ITV1 soap - thinks his character has had such a colourful life during his time in Weatherfield, which is set to come to an end next month, that it should be enough for a programme of his own.

He said: "I'd suggest John runs away to Italy and starts a new life over there.

"He's a very popular character. Maybe ITV would like to follow him to see what disasters befall him."

The deranged teacher has had a controversial life on the cobbled streets, and he is set to try to convince wife Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) to flee Coronation Street before his lies catch up with him.

John - who has been involved in three deaths in the show - stole the identity of friend Colin Fishwick (David Crellin), who died of a heart attack, and buried his body in the foundations of the Underworld knicker factory.

The murderer then killed Colin's mum Joy (Doreen Mantle) after she started getting suspicious about her son's whereabouts and John also saw off ex-girlfriend Charlotte Hoyle (Becky Hindley) when she began blackmailing him over Colin's death.

John is now set to get a job with Owen Armstrong's (Ian Puleston-Davies) construction company, and will start work in the factory in an attempt to prevent the builders from finding Colin's buried body.
