will.i.am: Simon and Cheryl are 'irreplaceable' on X Factor
Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am thinks Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole are ''irreplaceable'' on 'The X Factor', as he doesn't believe the series will work without the pair.
will.i.am thinks Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole are "irreplaceable" on 'The X Factor'.
Following the 51-year-old music mogul's announcement that Cheryl would be joining him on the US version of the show, the Black Eyed Peas singer - who helped the 'Promise This' hitmaker at the judges' houses stage of the competition last year - doesn't think the new series will work without the pair.
He said: "I don't think there is much doubt that Simon and Cheryl are the two main guys. Simon is the glue that hols everything together and people love to watch him, and Cheryl is like a queen in the UK.
"They are both irreplaceable. I am sure their replacements on the show are going to be big names, and, to be honest, they will have to be."
Despite Matt Cardle winning the ITV1 show last year, will.i.am suggested Cheryl - who mentored previous champions Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry - found the real winner in teen rapper Cher Lloyd, who he performed alongside in the series final.
He added to The Sun newspaper: "Cheryl has had the last three winners. I don't think there is another female out there who can do what she does on the show. She is one of a kind.
"I think the UK show can still be really fun but I don't see how it can be the same without the two most-loved judges."
will's comments follow Simon Cowell confirming Cheryl would be joining him, L.A. Reid and Paula Abdul on the judging panel for the US 'X Factor' later this year.
He told website Deadline.com: "This girl is special. She's got a great ability to communicate. She's a great judge. She's smart. It's just a hunch. If people take to her like the British public did, I think she's going to do really well in America. Fox were desperate to hire her."
