Gary Barlow hot favourite to take over as X Factor head judge
Gary Barlow is reportedly in ''advanced talks'' about the possibility of taking over from Simon Cowell on 'The X Factor' judging panel.
Gary Barlow is the hot favourite to take over from Simon Cowell on 'The X Factor'.
Following the 51-year-old music mogul's recent announcement that he wouldn't be assuming a full-time role on the ITV1 talent contest when it returns to screens later in the year, show bosses are reportedly in "advanced talks" with the Take That singer in the hope he will replace the acid-tongued judge on the panel.
An 'X Factor' insider told the Daily Mail newspaper: "Gary is our favourite for the job. We are in discussions and we should have something to announce in the next couple of weeks."
While Gary - who has previously appeared as a mentor on the show - is believed to be a stark contrast to Simon with his "Mr. Nice" attitude, TV chiefs are certain the 40-year-old star would be a "great judge".
The source added: "What Gary and Simon both have is an innate understanding of the music industry and what you need to succeed - that determination. Gary would be a great judge."
Simon officially quit his permanent role on 'The X Factor' last week to concentrate on the US launch of the series.
ITV boss Peter Fincham confirmed: "We have been in negotiations with Simon about ways in which we can help 'The X Factor' evolve. He will be an enormous presence backstage as always.'
"Some of the speculation about us pleading with Simon to be a judge makes me smile. I constantly hear we are in crisis but in reality we have an amazingly constructive relationship with Simon and are very much reading from the same page."
