Glasvegas: EUPHORIC /// HEARTBREAK \\\

Below par return from the Glasgow miserabilists

Funny that Glasvegas used ‘Euphoric’ in the title of their sophomore album. This is euphoria’s most definite of antonyms, but did anyone expect otherwise? Euphoric///Heartbreak\\\ is a Glaswegian dirge, muddled in lucid synth and languid tempos, and whilst the impressive ‘The World Is Yours’ and ‘Euphoria, Take My Hand’ deviate somewhat – indebted to strong rhythms and refrains suited to the most melodious of wirelesses – the rest of the album struggles to alleviate itself above predictable dour melancholy. James Allan used to achingly sing ‘Daddy’s Gone’, but maybe now a bit of the Glasvegas spark has gone too.
