Todd Grimshaw is returning to 'Coronation Street'.

The openly gay character, played by Bruno Langley, shared the ITV1 soap's first gay kiss with Nick Tilsley and his return is sure to send shockwaves around the street, especially with his mother Eileen and brother Todd.

A source told the Sunday Mirror: "Todd was a hugely popular character and his gay kiss was a landmark moment. ['Coronation Street'boss] Phil Collinson is aware the show has a lot of gay viewers and feels there should be more characters they can identify with.

"When Phil contacted Bruno about making a comeback he was over the moon. Everyone's really excited about it."

The character of Todd last appeared in the soap in 2007 when he returned for the wedding of his brother Jason to former girlfriend Sarah Platt.

Todd's storyline paved the way for a number of gay characters in the soap including barman Sean Tully and lesbian schoolgirl couple Sophie Webster and Sian Powers.
