ITV has screened six of the ten most-watched programmes throughout 2010, with 'The X Factor' final topping the list

ITV screened six of the ten most-watched programmes throughout 2010.

The list, compiled from average viewing figures, revealed 'The X Factor' final - which was won by former painter and decorator Matt Cardle - was the show the most people tuned into over the course of the year.

While BBC One soap 'EastEnders' scooped the number two spot with its live episode in February, which saw Stacey Branning (Lacey Turner) come clean about killing Archie Mitchell (Larry Lamb), BBC shows as a whole made up just four of the top ten shows.

Coronation Street's explosive tram crash episode came in third place, with the finals of ITV1 reality shows 'Britain's Got Talent' and 'I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!' taking fourth and fifth slots on the ratings charts.

Meanwhile, BBC One's final of 'Strictly Come Dancing' - won by former 'EastEnders' star Kara Tointon - came in sixth, ahead of the New Year special of BBC sci-fi drama 'Doctor Who'.

'Downton Abbey', 'Gavin and Stacey' and 'Emmerdale' completed the list, which was released by ITV bosses.

Despite being trumped by their rival channel, BBC executives claim the fight is not over, as they have so many "good shows" to air over the Christmas and New Year period.

An insider told The Sun newspaper: "We can't contemplate what our yearly ratings will be as we have so many good shows to come."
