TV hero Cheryl Cole
Cheryl Cole has been voted as the UK's top celebrity hero of 2010, narrowly beating Ann Widdecombe and 'X Factor' contestant Wagner-Fiuza Carrilho to the top spot
Cheryl Cole has been voted as the UK's top celebrity hero of 2010.
Despite facing a public backlash over controversial decisions she made in her role as 'X Factor' judge and mentor - including not taking Gamu Nhengu through to the live finals of the ITV1 show - the brunette beauty was voted by 26 per cent of Brits as hero of the year.
The 'Promise This' singer was closely followed by eccentric Brazilian 'X Factor' contestant Wagner Fiuza-Carrilho and hilarious 'Strictly Come Dancing' star Ann Widdecombe, who came in joint second place with 19 per cent of the total votes.
However, the reality show duo divided the nation on whether to love or hate them, with eight per cent of the almost 7,000 people questioned in the Virgin Media poll also choosing them as the villains of 2010.
Meanwhile, Manchester United and England footballer Wayne Rooney - who reportedly cheated on his wife Coleen earlier in the year - was officially the top villain, with 24 per cent of the vote.
Elsewhere, Gillian McKeith's attention-seeking behaviour on 'I'm A Celebrity . Get Me Out Of Here!' clearly didn't do her any favours with the public, as she was voted as fourth-worst villain of the year.
