Man of all trades Matt Cardle
Matt Cardle has revealed among his many former jobs he used to be a member of the circus and a Father Christmas impersonator
Matt Cardle used to be a member of the circus and a Father Christmas impersonator.
The 27-year-old singer - who worked as a painter and decorator before being crowned winner of 'The X Factor' on Sunday (12.12.10) - explained he has lost count of the number of different jobs he's been employed in.
He said: "I've had so many jobs along the way I've lost count. I worked in a wood factory making furniture, in a plastics factory and as a bricklayer. One year I was even Father Christmas. I was only 18 and I had these little Reebok Classics sticking out the bottom of the Santa outfit.
"Probably the weirdest job was working for the Great British Circus, putting up and taking down cages for lions on a film set."
The Essex-based star also admitted he had been "a bit of a bum" over the years and kept putting off getting a proper job because he dreamt of following his dream of having a successful music career.
In an exclusive extract of his new book 'Matt Cardle: My Story' published in The Sun newspaper, Matt explained: "I was always putting off getting a real job because I knew all I wanted to do was sing. I thought that if I settled down ad got a proper, sensible career it would have been admitting I hadn't made it as a singer and I just didn't want to believe that was the case.
"I've never made any secret of the fact that I'm a bit of a bum."
