Ruth Jones to front chat show as Nessa?
Ruth Jones wants to front her upcoming BBC Two chat show as her 'Gavin and Stacey' alter-ego Nessa, as it would make it easier to ask guests cheeky questions.
Ruth Jones may front her chat show as her 'Gavin and Stacey' alter-ego to combat her nerves.
The Welsh actress - who played hilarious Nessa Jenkins in the BBC One show - explained she thinks questioning her upcoming guests Will Young, Ricky Gervais and Miranda Hart in the guise of her character will help her ask cheeky questions.
She explained: "I did a chat show in Wales last year and I came out as Nessa. As yourself, there is nowhere to hide. I found it easier being Nessa because I could be rude to people, not that I am saying you should be rude."
However, the 43-year-old comedienne admitted she is "unsure" about hosting the show, which begins on BBC Two next week.
She said: "I won't lie, I was very unsure. I enjoy talking to people, but I am no Michael Parkinson or Jonathan Ross. They don't need to worry!
"I was lucky with 'Gavin and Stacey' and I don't want people to think, 'Oh gosh, who does Ruth Jones think she is now - a chat show host?' I care what people say. I wish I didn't."
Aside from her new TV venture, the actress admitted she is keen to join forces with her former co-stars and create 'Gavin and Stacey: The Musical'.
Ruth added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I would absolutely love to do 'Gavin and Stacey: The Musical'. I seriously would!
"James Corden and I joke about it, but I would like to do it. It would have to be a limited run of about eight weeks with all the original cast members. But it would be absolutely immense as you could tell the story of how they all met."
