Matt Cardle has won 'The X Factor'.
The 27-year-old singer beat fellow hopefuls Rebecca Ferguson and One Direction in tonight's (12.12.10) grand finale of the ITV1 show, despite battling ill health for the past two weeks.
With a visibly disappointed One Direction being the first act to bow out of the competition after receiving the lowest proportion of the public vote, it was down to Rebecca and Matt to battle it out in the hope of being crowned winner.
In a nail-biting final, Matt emerged victorious after belting out a rendition of Katy Perry's 'Firework' and his winner's song, Biffy Clyro's 'Many Of Horror', which both Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell described as his "best performance of the series".
Simon gushed: "Thoroughly well deserved and I've got to tell you Matt, an incredible song and I agree with Cheryl, it was your best performance of the whole series."
After host Dermot O'Leary announced Matt - who is mentored by Dannii Minogue - was this year's 'X Factor' winner, the Essex-based singer received a rapturous applause from the studio audience before going on to thank his fans.
He said: "Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I'm so proud. Everyone should be so proud to have got to this stage."
Meanwhile, second place Rebecca Ferguson admitted she was thrilled to have even reached the final.
She explained: "I'm so happy and so grateful. Matt's amazing."
