'Hollyoaks' viewers are set to see some "explosive" Christmas storylines.

Darren Day - who plays local gangster Danny Houston in the Channel 4 soap - has revealed the show's "shocking" festive episodes will focus on bad boys Danny, Brendan Brady (Emmett Scanlan) and Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas).

He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "We're filming the Christmas storylines at the moment and it's hugely explosive stuff. The Christmas and New Year episodes are really quite shocking!

"It will be both emotionally and physically explosive. Think the Il Gnosh blaze and you'll be along the right lines. The storyline focuses on Danny, Brendan and Warren Fox - the three bad boys."

The 42-year-old actor admitted while he has traditionally played nice guys in the past, he is relishing in his villainous new role.

Darren added: "I'm a big fan of the soap villain and have always fancied a crack at it. I've just always wanted to play an out and out bad guy, it's just so much more fun than playing the good guys like I've tended to in musical theatre.

"I only came to do one episode originally and they liked what I did and wanted to write me into a big storyline. It's actually the most fun I've had in my career in ages."
