Rhona Goskirk's baby heartbreak
'Emmerdale' vet Rhona Goskirk will face the agonising decision of choosing whether or not to terminate her pregnancy after discovering her unborn baby is likely to have Down's syndrome
Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk will be told her unborn baby is likely to have Down's syndrome.
The vet - played by actress Zoe Henry - will face the agonising decision of choosing whether or not to terminate the pregnancy as part of the heart-breaking storyline this Christmas.
Despite being thrilled to be expecting a child, the mum-to-be is terrified the baby's dad Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) won't want to be involved in the tot's life if it survives, and she is also worried it will destroy her romance with his best friend Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt), who she left Marlon for.
Zoe explained: "The news knocks Rhona off her feet. She hadn't even entertained the idea that anything might be wrong. Rhona's been more preoccupied with leaving Marlon, the baby's day, and starting a new relationship with Paddy.
"There's so much to consider with Down's syndrome. Rhona goes off and does what many people would, and reads all about it on the internet. Without proper guidance, though, she ends up scaring herself rigid."
The actress - who has two children with 'Emmerdale' co-star Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle) - admitted the storyline is particularly close to her heart.
She added to Inside Soap magazine: "I feel for the woman. The next few weeks will feature lots of angst and tears as the three of them try to come to a decision.
"My friend's child has Down's syndrome, and it's been a real help to talk to her. I was also a care worker for adults and children who live with Down's syndrome and as a mum, I can imagine some of what Rhona's going through."
