Gamu Nhengu to go head to head with X Factor single
'X Factor' reject Gamu Nhengu is to release a Christmas single, which could go head to head in the charts with the winner of the ITV1 show.
Gamu Nhengu is to release a Christmas single to go head to head with the 'X Factor' winner.
The Zimbabwe-born singer - who was controversially left out of the live finals stage of the ITV1 show by judge Cheryl Cole - has teamed up with her former music teacher David Clifford to record the track for Stirling-based children's charity Aberlour.
Entitled 'Where Will You Sleep This Christmas', Gamu revealed she was "honoured" to be asked to appear on the single.
She explained: "From the minute I heard the song, I loved it. This is the first time I have done anything like this, so I was really honoured when Mr. Clifford asked me to record it."
If the 18-year-old singer's track does beat the eventual 'X Factor' winner's single to the top spot, it will be the second consecutive year the talent show has missed out on scoring the Christmas number one.
Last year's winner Joe McElderry went into second place with 'The Climb' after being outsold by rockers Rage Against The Machine following an internet campaign to keep 'The X Factor' off the top spot.
The charity is hoping the "power and emotion" of Gamu's voice will make the song a strong contender for this year's Christmas number one.
An Aberlour spokesperson added to the Daily Record newspaper: "We have always known she is a talented young person. The song is a good, strong one for Christmas. It is a festive song. The power and emotion of Gamu's voice shines through. We always knew she is a great talent."
The young singer is currently fighting a deportation battle, which could see her forced to leave her home in Clackmannanshire, Scotland.
Gamu's appeal is due to be heard by Glasgow's Immigration Court on Friday (26.11.10).
