Doctor Who Christmas special announced
The 'Doctor Who' Christmas special will be based on Charles Dickens' traditional tale 'A Christmas Carol' with an alien twist
Doctor Who's Christmas special will be based on 'A Christmas Carol' with an alien twist.
The Christmas Day (25.12.10) episode - which show boss Steven Moffat claims is the "most exciting" he's ever written - will pay homage to Charles Dickens' famous 1843 story about Ebenezer Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmases past, present and future.
But in a twist, Matt Smith - who plays the Time Lord in the BBC One sci-fi series - will come face to face with a series of terrifying monsters.
Announcing the episode yesterday (15.11.10), Steven explained: "Oh, we're going for broke with this one. It's all your favourite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And The Doctor. And a honeymoon. I've never been so excited about writing anything."
Meanwhile, Matt recently revealed he and Karen Gillan - who plays his on-screen companion Amy Pond - are going to sing a Christmas carol as an extra festive treat for fans, which will air on 'Doctor Who Confidential' ahead of the Christmas Day special.
Matt revealed: "We are going to sing for 'Doctor Who Confidential'. We're going to do a carol for people. It's going to be fun, I'm feeling really festive and I like being festive.
"I think those two things marry quite well together - 'Doctor Who' and Christmas."
