Ashley Peacock to perish in tram crash
Ashley Peacock is reportedly set to die in December's `Coronation Street' tram crash inferno after getting crushed under a pile of rubble
Ashley Peacock is reportedly to be killed off in Coronation Street's upcoming tram crash inferno.
The much-loved butcher - who has been played by Steven Arnold for the last 15 years - will be crushed under falling rubble when a tram careers off the viaduct as part of the ITV1 soap's dramatic 50th Anniversary storyline later this year.
Ashley then chokes to death in the wreckage, despite the efforts of a group of would-be rescuers, including cabbie Lloyd Mullaney (Craig Charles).
However, he is not the only 'Coronation Street' star set to perish in the carnage - adulterous new mum Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) will also die after being trapped under the rubble cradling baby Jack.
Also set to leave in the soap's shock anniversary storylines is Charlotte Hoyle - played by Becky Hindley - who will be hit over the head with a hammer by crazed teacher John Stape (Graeme Hawley) after he grows increasingly worried she will reveal that he buried Colin Fishwick's body under the Underworld knicker factory, The Sun newspaper reports.
Steven - and his on-screen wife Claire (Julia Haworth) was said to be "fuming" after hearing he was being axed from the ITV1 soap earlier this year.
'Coronation Street' producer Phil Collinson said at the time: "Ashley and Claire have been part of the fabric of Weatherfield for many years. But like any community, people come and go. The actors and myself felt we'd reached a crossroads. We mutually decided to start working towards an exit."
