'Shameless' actor Elliott Tittensor was attacked as he left court yesterday (02.11.10).
The 20-year-old star was leaving Highbury magistrate's court in London - after being fined £750 for driving without insurance during an incident in which a teenager was run over - when he was puched in the stomach.
An onlooker said: "He walked out of court hand-in-hand with his girlfriend and this guy suddenly came from nowhere, tapped him on the shoulder and belted him in the stomach.
"Police officers pounced on him straight away, pulled him to the ground face down and handcuffed him. They then dragged him off down the road."
Elliott had originally been arrested for the attempted murder of Oliver Flint, who was blinded in one eye after climbing onto the bonnet of the actor's car while attempting to talk to the star's girlfriend, 'Skins' actress Kaya Scodelario in a fast food restaurant in Kentish Town, North London, in August.
However, the court ruled yesterday Elliott - who repeatedly drove back and forth to shake Oliver off the car - had acted in self defence.
District Judge Robin McPhee said: "I give you credit for your guilty plea. Your insurance policy had expired for just over a month."
The aggressor is believed to have been a friend of Oliver who was upset the actor - who plays Carl Gallagher in the Channel 4 show - received only a fine and six points on his driving licence.
'Shameless' publicist Deborah Goodman said Elliott and Kaya were both "really shocked" by what had happened.
