Cheryl and Cher's 'X Factor' clash
Cher Lloyd has reportedly clashed with her 'X Factor' mentor Cheryl Cole over her rebranding, which could see her named Cher-L
'X Factor' hopeful Cher Lloyd has clashed with mentor Cheryl Cole over her name.
Bosses of the ITV1 show have decided the teenage singing sensation needs an edgier name to correspond with her street style - but using her forename alone could cause confusion with iconic US star Cher.
However, when executives chose to rebrand the 17-year-old star - who has been described as a "mini Cheryl" - with the moniker 'Cher-L', the 'Fight for This Love' singer intervened, complaining the new name was too similar to her own.
An insider explained: "Cher has already been called a mini Cheryl and now she could end up with almost the same name. 'X Factor' chiefs want Cher to change her name after the show to give her something a bit edgier and more fitting to her image.
"They don't like her having two names and think she should have something a bit different. She can't be known as Cher so the idea of Cher-L came up - but her mentor didn't like it as it was so similar to her wn name."
Despite Cheryl's support for the aspiring young star, it would appear she is putting her foot down on this occasion, and is determined to protect her own professional identity.
The source added to The Sun newspaper: "Cher loves Cheryl and values her input and ideas but it doesn't look like she'll get her own way on this one."
