Katie Waissel 'at breaking point'
Controversial 'X Factor' hopeful Katie Waissel is said to be at breaking point after receiving online death threats as the public backlash against her intensifies
'X Factor' hopeful Katie Waissel is said to be at breaking point.
The controversial 24-year-old singer - who was in the bottom three in the ITV1 show's first week - has been forced to ask police to intervene after receiving death threats over the internet as the public backlash against her intensifies.
Her father Maurice told the Daily Mail newspaper: "I've had Katie sobbing on the phone to me every night. She's had death threats sent to her over the internet, and we've had to ask the police to intervene.
"Only the other night, Katie said to me, 'Dad, what's the point in going on if everyone hates me?' Let's face it, X Factor has become a circus where only the strongest survive."
Elsewhere this week, 'The X Factor' camp has been rocked by contestants refusing to perform in the same section of the show as "cursed" Mary Byrne.
In week one, Katie and Nicolo Festa were both in the bottom three after performing in Part Six alongside the Irish supermarket worker, while Belle Amie and Treyc Cohen had to be saved by the judging panel after starring in the same section as the 50-year-old hopeful in weeks two and three.
An insider told the Daily Star newspaper: "She's pulling votes in by the million and is the surprise package of the show so far. It's spelling bad news for anyone who has to compete with her for the audience's attention.
"After all four of her rivals being jinxed, there's certainly no rush to be the one who tries to break the hoodoo. It used to be going first that was seen as the worst slot but many acts would happily go first if it meant keeping Mary away from them."
