Doreen Mantle is joining 'Coronation Street'.

The actress - who is best known for her role as Jean Warboys in 'One Foot in the Grave' - has signed up to the ITV1 soap to portray Joy Fishwick, the mother of tragic Colin Fishwick (David Crellin).

While the details of her character are yet to be finalised out, it is believed she will come to Weatherfield after growing concerned about her missing son, unaware he is actually dead.

The 'Coronation Street' website revealed: "Doreen has already begun filming and will be on-screen in the next few weeks.

"Will she discover John's dark secret, as the curse of Colin continues to haunt the cobbles?"

Colin died suddenly after learning Weatherfield criminal John Stape (Graeme Hawley) had stolen his identity to secure a job after he left prison.

John and Charlotte Hoyle (Becky Hindley) went on to hide the body in the Underworld knicker factory, and were shocked to learn it had been buried under concrete during building works.

John has been treading on thin ice in recent weeks, as those close to Colin have started growing suspicious about his whereabouts.

His colleague Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) recently cropped up in the Street, claiming that Colin's mother was desperately trying to find him.
