'Coronation Street' legend Roy Cropper's life will be turned upside down when one of his relatives moves to Weatherfield.

The new character will descend on the Street in early 2011 and is set to cause trouble between Roy (David Neilson) and his sex-change spouse Hayley Cropper (Julie Hesmondhalgh).

Show producer Phil Collinson told Inside Soap magazine: "Early next year we might well bring in a relative of Roy - but I don't want to reveal more than that right now.

"It'll be someone who will really put the cat among the pigeons for him and Hayley, though."

The soap boss has also revealed how builder Owen Armstrong (Ian Puleston-Davies) is set to be part of a "dark" storyline in the hit ITV1 soap.

The tough-talking businessman has already ruffled a few feathers since joining the community earlier this year as maneater Liz MacDonald's latest love interest.

Phil added: "Owen's an alpha male who likes to have his own way, although at the same time, he's struggled a lot and loves his children.

"We're still learning about him. He can be dark and dangerous, but he'll fight for his kids. Watch this space for Owen!"

The show's chief is currently working on a major 50th anniversary storyline this December when a tram crash kills off many of the street's long-standing characters.
