Mary Byrne's X Factor tears
Mary Byrne broke down on 'The X Factor' last night (16.10.10) after wowing the audience and the judges with her powerful rendition of Dusty Springfield's 'You Don't Have to Say You Love Me'
Mary Byrne broke down on the 'X Factor' stage last night (16.10.10) after receiving a standing ovation.
The supermarket worker was in tears after her powerful rendition of Dusty Springfield's 'You Don't Have to Say You Love Me' brought the entire audience to their feet for a round of applause.
Judge Dannii Minogue told her: "Mary I know you were nervous about tonight's performance and you absolutely don't have to be nervous at all. That was priceless, it was so beautiful."
Cheryl Cole went on to describe the song as giving her "goosebumps", and praising the 50-year-old Irish Tesco worker for her vocals.
This week the contestants performed songs under the theme of Heroes.
While Mary blew the judges away, Aiden Grimshaw - who has been backed as one of the favourites to win the show - was criticised for his "shaky" vocals on John Lennon track 'Jealous Guy'.
Describing his own performance, he said: "It was a bit rubbish."
Boy band manager Louis Walsh and Aiden's mentor Dannii both praised the 18-year-old star, but Simon Cowell and Cheryl agreed his performance wasn't as good as last weekend.
Simon said: "There were too many times on that song where it went out of control. Last week you were on the money, nerves got the better of you, it ran away with you.
"I think you are potentially brilliant but you have to find a song which you can control more.'
The judge's disagreements did not end there, as Cheryl and Louis bickered whilst giving their verdicts to Aiden, with Louis interrupting her on several occasions.
Simon believes the pair are feuding because they are both fighting for his attention.
He told the News of the World newspaper: "He is like a naughty little boy. I'm glad there's tension between them, it makes me laugh that the two of them wind each other up so much.
"If Louis is not getting enough attention - if I'm spending more time with Cheryl - he gets jealous."
Meanwhile, as the judges are clashing, the contestants are seemingly getting on better than ever, with singer Katie Waissel and Matt Cardle reportedly being caught in bed together in the 'X Factor' house.
'The X Factor' results will air tonight on ITV, where there will be another double eviction.
