Keith Richards once threatened one of his best friends by putting a pistol to his head, to stop him from writing a book about his drug use
Keith Richards once threatened one of his best friends by putting a pistol to his head.
The Rolling Stones guitarist, famed for his wild ways, once threatened his former personal assistant Tony Sanchez when he said he was going to write a tell-all book about his time with the band, including their drug use, years after he had stopped hanging around with the band and cleaned up himself.
Tony wrote in his book 'Up And Down With the Rolling Stones': "I next heard from them several years later when Keith found out I was starting work on a book about my time with the Stones.
"I got a message saying he didn't want it published and asking me to meet him in his hotel room in New York, where we were both staying.
"After we had chatted about old times, he slipped his hand under a cushion, pulled out a small gun and pointed it at my head. My stomach churned as I gently pushed it away.
"'Don't muck about Keith,' I said. 'I'm not mucking about,' he snapped. Then he chuckled and invited me to share a bottle of whisky with him."
Tony said the reason he was originally hired by Keith to be his right hand man in the 60s was because he was a "ordinary" person he could hang around with and complain about his girlfriend at the time, Anita Pallenberg.
He added: "Keith preferred to pay for the companionship of an ordinary person like me, and I had to do little more than get high with him and listen to his moaning about Anita's latest unpleasantness."
'Up And Down With the Rolling Stones' is available now.
