This year's 'X Factor' contestants are to release a cover of David Bowie's 'Heroes' to raise money for charity.

The 16 finalists - including Cher Lloyd, Aiden Grimshaw, One Direction and Mary Byrne - will record the track and video next week with the proceeds going to Help4Heroes, a charity to help British troops.

The single will be released on November 7.

Bowie's original version came out in 1977, although only managed to reach 24 in the UK singles chart.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed 'X Factor' wildcard Treyc Cohen has been hiding a tragic secret from her fellow contestants - her older brother was killed by a drunk driver when she was just eight.

Junior, 21, died in a head-on crash and her father Fitzgerald says he would have been thrilled with Treyc's performances if he had been alive to see her.

He said: "He'd be so proud of her if he was here today."

Treyc was put through by mentor Cheryl Cole as her wildcard choice after just missing out on being in her top three girls.
