'X Factor' hopeful Katie Waissel's mother admits her daughter can come across as "annoying".
The 24-year-old receptionist has failed to win over the public with her quirky style and confident manner and after coming in the bottom three at the weekend, her mum Diana knows why viewers haven't taken to her.
She said: "She may come across as annoying, but she just wants to stand out. She's learning to handle the criticism. It would be difficult for anyone to take, but the more she receives. The more she's having to get used to it."
Diana also admitted Katie hasn't really bonded with the other girls in her category - Cher Lloyd, Rebecca Ferguson and Treyc Cohen - as she just wants to focus on winning.
She added to Heat magazine: "It isn't easy for Katie - they're split up a lot of the time and doing different things. Cher's a lot younger than Katie and needs a bit more control and guidance. Katie isn't sitting down chatting to the other girls. It's all down to business at the end of the day and Katie's very focused on that."
During Saturday night's (09.10.10) show, Katie performed a version of Queen's 'We Are The Champions' in a bizarre plastic hat and silver raincoat and although the judges saved her the following night, she now wants to tone down her image to appeal to fans.
A source said: "Katie doesn't understand why some fans hate her and really wants to turn things around. She wants to ditch the gimmicks and try to wow people with her voice."
