Tuneless drunk Charlotte Church
Charlotte Church can't sing when she's drunk, but it doesn't stop her from attempting karaoke
Charlotte Church can't sing when she's drunk.
The 'Lovedrunk' singer rose to fame as a child soprano - dubbed the 'Voice Of an Angel'- but while she has given up alcohol now, she said she's had some embarrassing moments at her local karaoke bar.
She said: "The problem is, if I've had a couple of ciders, I can't sing at all. I've got no control. It's really, really bad. People are all excited to see me, and then it's like, 'Oh, she's dreadful.' "
No matter how bad her singing was, Charlotte loved karaoke so much she built a bar in a log cabin of her back garden, so she could sing at any time.
She said: "It was awesome: proper karaoke machine, two TVs, lasers, smoke machines, disco balls, fag machine, jukebox. I could sing to my heart's content as badly as the vodka decreed."
Charlotte said her late night sessions eventually prompted her musical comeback, which has seen her record her first album, 'Back to Scratch', since 2005.
She added: "My voice gets me through anything. If I'm having a crappy day, I just sing it away. I don't know what I would do if I lost my voice. I'd be a shell of a person. So I thought it was time to get out of the karaoke bar and up my game."
