Ann Widdecome's new 'Strictly Come Dancing' diet is giving her gas problems in rehearsals.

The former MP has reportedly been tucking into high-energy snacks to keep her alert enough for the ballroom dance competition's gruelling rehearsals - where she is being taught by professional partner Anton du Beke - but has been left with a smelly dilemma as she struggles to control her "trumping".

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Ann has been literally twirling like the wind during rehearsals. She has been doing rather a lot of trumping while spinning around. She's got such a good sense of humour and either ignores it or laughs it off. Those new to exercise or professional dancing do break wind more than usual because it engages their core for the first time."

Despite her problem, Ann is throwing herself into training and is desperate to make Anton proud - even though she feels as ungraceful as Dumbo the flying elephant.

Discussing her performance at the weekend, she explained: "I was pleased to get round the floor without anything going wrong. I think Anton feels he's teaching Dumbo the elephant.

"I think I'm a good bet to be voted off."

Ann has also compared Anton's teaching techniques as similar to that of a horse riding instructor.

She explained to the Radio Times magazine: "He kept saying, 'Long strides. Posture! Head up! Can we do this dance standing up? Look left. Left!' The last time anybody gave me so many instructions in so short a time was my riding instructor when I was 19. And I fell off the horse."
