Arlene Philips' funny praise for Ann Widdecombe
Arlene Philips has compared 'Strictly Come Dancing' hopeful Ann Widdecombe and dance partner Anton du Beke to legendary comedy duo Morecambe and Wise
Arlene Philips thinks Ann Widdecombe and her 'Strictly Come Dancing' partner Anton du Beke are like Morecambe and Wise.
The choreographer - who used to judge the reality show - believes the politician's hapless dance moves will mean they will prove as popular with the general public as British comedy favourites Eric and Ernie.
She said: "They are going to be like Morecambe and Wise. Everyone is going to fall in love with them. The clever thing was coupling her with Anton. With anyone else it would have been something very different. Ann's going to remain in the competition because the public love her.
"Everyone will be turning on their screens to watch her do a Latin routine. It's going to be hysterical."
However, Arlene believes Ann will face stiff competition from the male celebrity contenders, with Matt Baker and Gavin Henson both in the running.
She told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Matt Baker is my number one at the moment but that could change after I see Gavin Henson do his Latin.
"I have a feeling a boy will win this year."
The opinionated ex-panellist has also predicted 'Holby City' star Patsy Kensit, 42, will be the first of the 14 hopefuls to get booted off the show next weekend, after branding her "dull".
Following her debut waltz with partner Robin Windsor she said: "If she's as dull next week, I'd want to say goodbye to her. Her stockings and suspenders well and truly need to be pulled up."
